My relationship with jewelry began early. Growing up in the 1980s, I developed a strong love for bold, expressive piece like plastic earrings, statement brooches and decorative pins. My mother would sometimes sew blazers for me which I embellished with brooches and wore proudly to school. At the time, this style was unconventional as very few teenagers dressed that way. Looking back, those early choices were my first experiments with using jewelry not just as ornamentation but as structure—pieces that completed an outfit and gave it character.
